Tough Love - Bill Milliken

Image
A video of Bill Milliken... author of the book "Tough Love". He says people didn't apply the concept the way he intended... wikipedia describes it as being Stern & Harsh with someone ( Link )... but in the video below, he doesn't specify exactly what the nature of the mis-use of his concept was. "I haven't seen one program that changes people.  What changes people is relationships... somebody willing to walk through the valley of the shadow of adolescents and love them into change.  If a young person doesn't have hope, they're going to do one of two things... they're going to hurt you or hurt themselves.  It takes personal relationships with caring adults and safe caring environments https://youtu.be/RfgF2aiBbfg Tough Love: Bill Milliken, Char Meredith, Bruce Larson: Amazon.com: Books https://www.amazon.com/Tough-Love-Bill-Milliken/dp/B0006BUQZC -

Four TED videos compiled into a "Themed Set"

Image
Here are some videos that when viewed as a set make an interestingly complete message that aligns quite effectively with unconditional love principles and offers some insights that I haven't been able to find yet elsewhere. #1 and #2 are by researchers who present intellectual messages about their findings... with one themed more with an introvert style and the other in an extrovert style. In my opinion, these two videos are really presenting the same core idea, but from different angles of understanding. I found it useful to view both, because each offers something the other doesn't. #3 and #4 feel like a real world applications of the wisdom of the first two. They are by average people (not professionals) who learned what they know by personally living it instead of just observing it as in the cases of the first two. These people have reached a point where presenting their message to others is the act of living it... which is very important to do... reaching a point where...

Belief & Stress

On the topic of belief... "A belief in something about yourself increases the likelihood of it actually happening. Belief controls your personal health. For example, people who believe stress is harmful are more likely to be harmed by it." On the topic of stress... "Here is what most people don't understand about stress. It makes you social. It fine tunes your brain's social instincts. It primes you to do things that strengthen close relationships. It makes you crave physical contact. It enhances your empathy. It makes you more willing to help and support the people you care about. Stress is your body's way of motivating you to seek social support. Stress is nudging you to tell someone how you feel instead of bottling it up. Your stress response wants to make sure you notice when someone else in your life is struggling so that you can support each other. When life is difficult, your stress response wants you to be surrounded by people who care about you...
